Mr. Roswell A. Hamby 68, of Huguley, Alabama died Sunday March 14, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday March 18, 2015 at 11 A.M. EST at Johnson Brown Service Funeral home Chapel in Valley, Alabama with Pastor David Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 50 West of LaFayette. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday March 17, 2015 from 6PM until 8PM EST at Johnson Brown Service Funeral Home in Valley. Jeff Jones Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mr. Hamby is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years Bonnie Garrett Hamby of Lanett, Al., his children Paula (Lamar) Smith of Huguley, Heath Hamby of Lanett, Kim (Greg) Shaver of Huguley, grandchildren Shelby Smith, Skylar Smith, Seth Hamby, and Kendyl Colley, one brother Jim (Linda) Hamby, nephews Bill Hamby & Jared Hamby, special friends Mike and Nora Fett.
Born in Chambers County on February 20, 1947 he was the son of the late William "Doc" and Hilda Hamby. he served in the US Army from July 6, 1966 to June 24, 1968. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Hamnby owned three scrap metal recycling yards during his lifetime, Bacon Street Junkyard in LaGrange, Ga., Messer's Scrap Metal in Lanett, and Hamby Salvage,Inc. In Huguley. He also owned Hamby's Sand, Soil And Gravel in Lanett. Mr. Hamby was a hard worker his entire life. He loved and provided for his family, friends and employees. Mr. Hamby was a member of Marvyn Parkway Baptist Church in Opelika.
