Robert Timothy Cox, age 61, resident of LaFayette, AL, died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at East Alabama Medical Center, in Opelika, AL, after a brief illness.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. until funeral services at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Congregational Christian Church,4472 County Rd 53, LaFayette, AL 36862. Pall bearers will be Grant Patterson, Dean Smith, Elizabeth Jackson, Daniel Smith, Stephen Jackson, John Gilley, Tyler Carson, Jason and Ben Carson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Creek UCC Church in care of Betty Moon, 441 West Court St., Roanoke, AL 36274, or Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund in care of Leigh Wages, 7468 County Rd 114, LaFayette, AL 36862. Tim was born March 17, 1955, in LaFayette, AL to Louise James Cox and Judson T. Cox, the third of five children. He was always proud of his St. Patrick’s Day birthday embracing his Irish roots.
He was a graduate of Lafayette High School and attended Southern Union Community College. He was also an accomplished singer, song writer, and bass guitarist.
Tim resided in Clay County, AL for many years while raising his family. He was a previous owner of NAPA Auto Parts, an active member of First Baptist Church Ashland, Clay County Rescue Squad, volunteer coach of his boys’ baseball teams, and participated in a barbershop quartet volunteering his time performing for fund raising events, civic clubs, nursing homes, and various charities.
Returning to his family’s home place near Ripville in Chambers County, where he resided the past twenty five years, he continued with his volunteerism, his music career, his love of nature, and dedication to his beloved family and many friends.
Survivors include: wife, Mary Daniel Cox, mother, Louise J. Cox; children, Tina Cox Adams of Chelsea, AL, Judson Marshall Cox of Mississippi, Joshua Timothy Cox (Stacy) of Montgomery, AL, step children, Nancy Kaye Gilley and Larry Pace (Crystal) of Wadley, AL; sisters, Marlene Cox Jackson (Barron) of Clairmont Springs, Clay County, AL, Emily Cox Smith (Richard) of Opelika, AL; grandchildren, Sydni and Shelby Adams, Courtney, JT, and Christopher Cox, Hezekiah Hochstedler, Marshall Cox, Tyler Carson (Elizabeth), Jessica Stewart, Layla and Levi Pace; five great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Bonnie Daniel; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, and two brothers, James E. Cox and John Kimball Cox.
