Mrs. Ollie Mae Cotter, 91, of LaFayette, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 3 PM at Rock Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Caulfield officiating. Burial will follow at the LaFayette City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 2 PM until 3 PM, prior to the service.

Mrs. Cotter was a beloved member of the LaFayette community and Rock Springs Baptist Church. She was known for her kindness, tenacity and hard work.

Born in Dadeville, Alabama, she grew up in Tallapoosa County. She married Reginald Edwin (Red) Cotter, Sr., in 1948 and moved to Chambers County where she raised her family in the Antioch community. She and "Red" raised their four children (Edwin, Jerry, Jane and Tommy) and enjoyed 54 years of marriage before he passed away in 2002.

Ollie worked as supervisor and training instructor for International Playtex Inc. for 25 years until it closed. Then at the age of 46, Ollie went back to school and obtained her GED; and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Southern Union State Junior College. She made the Dean's List every quarter which was a major life goal of hers that she was exceptionally proud of and an excellent example of her resilient spirit.

She went on to work for the Chambers County Probate Office and became an Independent Title Abstractor. She retired in 2010 at the age of 77 as a clerk with the Chambers County Highway Department.

Ollie Mae had a passion for gardening and took great joy in growing beautiful flowers that brightened the lives of those around her. She was also a very talented seamstress, creating many cherished outfits for her great grandchildren, with love and care.

Ollie Mae also had a love for travel and aspired to see as much of the United States as she could; enjoying many adventures out west with her daughter Jane. She is survived by her children Edwin Cotter (Rhonda) and Jane Hendricks; 4 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren, and sister Yvonne Petty along with numerous friends, who will miss her dearly.
