Mrs. Nina Still Langley of LaFayette, AL, age 94, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 15, 2017.

Visitation will be held at Center Baptist Church, 2511 County Road 33, LaFayette, AL on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm CST. The Funeral will be held at Center Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 10 am CST.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the "Eason Family Lyme Benefit" made payable to Fountain Gate Church, 2415 Moore's Mill Road, Suite 265-205, Auburn, AL 36830. Fountain Gate was formerly Believers Church.

Mrs. Nina Still Langley of LaFayette, AL, age 94, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Mrs. Langley was preceded in death by Mr. William Thomas Langley, her husband of 75 years. Mrs. Langley is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Langley Tankersley, Victoria Langley Ford (Mike Ford), and Janet Langley Eason (Bruce Eason). She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Ginny Tankersley Thibodeau (David Thibodeau), William Curtis Ford, Christian Ford-Cannon (Stephen Cannon), William Joseph Tankersley (Kim Tankersley), Lacy Eason Gullage (Jared Gullage), Amanda Tankersley Joiner (Brian Joiner), and Andrew Bruce Eason (Jenna Eason). Mrs. Langley has twelve great grandchildren (and one on the way): Benjamin Ford, Matthew Ford, Elizabeth Thibodeau, Jennifer Howard, Joseph Thibodeau, William Tankersley, Patrick Joiner, Ethan Tankersley, Jessica Howard, Tucker Eason, Julianna Gullage, Naomi Gullage, and Baby Girl Joiner. In addition, Mrs. Langley is survived by a sister-in-law and many nephews and nieces.


Mrs. Langley, born in LaFayette, Chambers County, AL on July 30, 1922, was the daughter of Frank Sanford Still and Mary Elizabeth Jones Still. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mrs. Beanie McCarley and Mrs. Ersa Adkins; her brother, Mr. Frankie Still; her son-in-law, Mr. Joseph Tankersley; her grandson, Mr. Joseph Tankersley, Jr.; and her great granddaughter, Miss Lily Marie Gullage.

After graduating LaFayette High School in 1940, she boarded in Fairfax, AL and worked in the Fairfax Mill. She worked in the mill until 1966. After marrying in 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Langley moved to Langdale, AL. Their small family moved to the Still’s family farm in LaFayette, AL in 1950. The Langleys started their own general contracting business in 1968, where she helped with administrative duties.

Mrs. Langley was a member at Center Baptist Church in LaFayette. She served the church in many capacities: Treasurer; Vacation Bible School Director; Sunday School Director, secretary, and teacher; Girl’s Auxiliary Leader; and Training Union Director and teacher. She was active in the Women’s Missionary Union, and she enjoyed singing in the choir.

Mrs. Langley was a musician and entertainer. She had an innate talent for playing music, dramatic speaking, and story-telling. She took drama in school and taught herself to play the guitar at age 15, and later taught herself the piano. She played in a band before she married and even had a radio show. She used these talents to entertain her family, and to minister to youth at camps, and to the elderly in nursing homes. She loved to cook and can, sew, render oil paintings, fish, research genealogy, garden, and make crafts. She enjoyed animals and was known to have dogs, cats, birds, fish, and even squirrels and raccoons as pets. Mrs. Langley loved her family and spent many hours encouraging each offspring to use their God given talents.

Mrs. Langley was active in the Alabama Homemakers Cooperative Extension Service. She served as the President of Woodshop Center Homemakers Club; President of Chambers County Homemakers Club; Alabama State Treasurer; and Alabama State President. Mrs. Langley was a recipient of a National Extension Homemakers award, a State President award, the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service Recognition Award, and many certificates of appreciation. She was recognized as an Outstanding Adult Leader in 4H and as a “Personality of the South” in 1979-1980 for her community leadership. She participated in the Voices of American Homemakers, an oral history project of the National Extension Homemakers Council.
