Jerry Delano Milner, age 77 passed away at his home in Milltown, Alabama on Thursday October 12, 2017. Memorial services for Mr. Milner will be held at the Milltown School Ballfield on Tuesday October 17, 2017 at 11 AM with visitation Tuesday from 10AM until 11 AM prior to the service. Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette, Al. in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Milner was born on October 9, 1940. He was an active member of Milltown Baptist Church, he was a beloved husband, father, educator, and businessman.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorene Aikens Milner, his parents Winnie N., Milner and Gladys Long Milner, sisters Sara Myrtle (Rudolph) Prather, Ruth (Jack) Smith and brother Robert (Buck) Milner. He is survived by his daughter Gina Ree Milner of Milltown, Al., his grand dog Lacey, his brother James B.(Loma) Milner, his sister in law Amelia Milner, stepsons William Cole, Tim (Jeannie) Cole, Mike Cole, Johnathan (Tracie) Cole, Ben (Carolyn) Cole, 5 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 1great grandson and a number of nieces and nephews. He was well loved by his special friends Minnie Laney, Cindy Komiotis, Veronica Fetner and niece Christy Prather who along with his daughter Gina Ree were his caregivers during his illness. His grand puppy Lacy whom he loved and spoiled was his constant companion and remained by his side until the end.
Mr. Milner began his legacy as an educator in 1962 at Beulah High School in Beulah, Alabama where he taught history and coached basketball. He continued as a teacher and coach in Chattahoochee and Cobb counties in Georgia (1964-1967) before coming to Chambers County, Alabama where he completed his exemplary career in education(1967-1991). He was a teacher, coach, and principle at Milltown School from 1967 to 1977, served as Chambers County Superintendent of Education from 1977 - 1981, returned to Milltown as principle from 1981-1985, and finished his career as Superintendent until he retired on July 31, 1991. After retirement from education Mr. Milner became well known in the area as the proprietor of Milner's Plunderosa in Milltown, where he traded and sold his extensive collection of antiques, collectibles and guns. He loved and was an avid supporter of the Auburn Tigers and the Atlanta Braves.
