Mr. Jack Thomas Langley 86 of LaFayette, Alabama died Tuesday April 26, 2016 at the East Alabama Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday April 28, 2016 at 10AM at the First Baptist Church in LaFayette with burial in the LaFayette City Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Hand And the Rev. Jimmy Allen officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 5PM until 7PM. Mr. Langley was born in Chambers County May 22, 1929 to the late George Veasey Langley and the late Lessie Bishop Langley. He served in the US Air Force, was a member of the First Baptist Church in LaFayette, he was also a mason and member of the Solomon Lodge #74 in LaFayette,he was in the pulpwood business for 56 years owning & operating Jack Langley Pulpwood in LaFayette, Alabama And West Point, Georgia. Mr Langley has always been an avid outdoorsman & wildlife endhusiast. All of the land management decisions have included practices that have benefitted wildlife & other land uses. In 1988 his property became Chambers County's first Treasure Forest. Due to his stewardship of the land he was awarded the Government Conservation Achievement Award for Wildlife. Mr. Langley was first a cattle and cotton farmer, then went into the wood business where he planted thousands of pine trees, where he has won many awards. One was our farm was the first Treasure Forest & then later he won for the oldest Treasure Forest.
He is Survived by his wife Kathleen Sherman (Tookie) Langley of LaFayette, Al., 2 sons-Billy (Carla) Langley of LaFayette, Al., Kim Langley of LaFayette, Al., 2 sisters-Lynda (Buddy) Burton of laFayette, Al.,Helen (Dennis) Calhoun of Columbus, Ga., 2 granddaughters-Heather Langley (Casey) McCleod of Opp, Al., Kelly Langley (Patrick) Poole of Auburn, Al., 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sarah George Langley.
