Mrs. Helene (Dena) Smith 93 of LaFayette, Alabama died Tuesday October 1, 2014 at the LaFayette Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Friday October 3, 2014 at 1 PM at the LaFayette Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Howard officiating, burial will follow in the LaFayette City Cemetery. Mrs. Helene (Dena) Smith 93 of LaFayette, Alabama died Tuesday October 1, 2014 at the LaFayette Nursing Home. She was born April 7, 1921 in Chambers County, Alabama to Columbus Albert Owen & Clara McIntosh Owen.

She was a member of the LaFayette Heights Baptist Church, She and her husband Albert (Hamp) Smith owned and operated Hamp Smith Grocery in LaFayette for many years. Hamp served on the LaFayette City Council and after hamp retired from the council Dena was elected to the the city council the only husband & wife to serve on the city council.

She is survived by her nephew and care giver and his family Ernie Woody, Leah Woody, Jamey Woody, Jessica, Chad & Addeleigh Moultrie. And other Neices & Nephews Jo Anne Hollingsworth, Nancy Bryan, Ellen White, Susan Stillwell, Jan Thomas, Don Owen, Don Phillips, Robert Clay Owen, Steve Owen, Bill Brown and sister in law Jean Owen.  And other care givers Edna McKinnon, Hattie Mae Briskey & Donna Porter.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 Siblings Jewel Lamb, Blanche Owen, Cora Phillips, Annie Rice, Bill Owen, Woodrow Owen, Merle Parker, Mary Lum Brown, Tabytha Woody & Bob Owen.
