Dr. Ernest Wesley Nunn of LaFayette, Alabama passed from this world on Monday, September 28, 2015. Funeral services will be Saturday October 3, 2015 at 2PM at Lebanon Presbyterian Church with The Dr. Don Nunn and the Rev. Shelley Nunn Martin officiating, burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held before the service from 10AM until 12 Noon at the Lebanon Presbyterian Church County Road 172 LaFayette (Buffalo) Alabama. Family and friends may bring a dish to share for lunch at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Five Points Fire Department (℅ Jeff Williams 1341 County road 224, LaFayette, Alabama 36862) or to the Lebanon Presbyterian TRUST FUND (℅ Linda Hodge P.O. Born October 16, 1932 in Rome, Georgia the son of Ernest and Anne Nunn. Wesley graduated from Commerce High School and attended Berry College. He left Berry the end of his second year and reported to Basic Training at Camp Gordon near Augusta, Georgia. During leave he and Jean were married on July 4, 1954. He served at Ft. Jackson, SC and then in Germany. At the end of service, he entered Auburn University and graduated in 1959 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. In 1971 Wesley and family moved to Hyderabad, India for Wesley to help develop crop research stations and lived in Zimbabwe, Indonesia and the Philippines. During this time Wesley earned his Master's and Doctorate degrees. Upon retirement Wesley and Jean returned to her homeplace in LaFayette, Alabama. One of Wesley's and Jean's major undertakengs was the grafting of pecan trees, harvesting , cracking and shelling. They developed the process into small seasonal pecan workshop business. Last year Jean and Wesley co-authored a book, Our Families, Farms, and Stories: From Alabama…to India…International Agricultural Research..and Back Home(ISBN978-0-9905675-3-0).
Dr., Nunn was predeceased by his wife of sixty years, Edna Jean Spence Nunn. He is survived by his son Ronald W. (Kay Marten) Nunn of Washington, D.C. his daughter Anne E. Nunn (Martin) Bredeck of LaFayette and Alexandria, VA. two brothers, Dr. Roger (Jo) Nunn of Allendale, S.C., and Dr. Don (Carole) Nunn of Kingsland, Ga. and four grandchildren, Dylan Nunn, Alan Nunn, Priya Bredeck, and Julius Bredeck.
