Judge Emerson W. Thompson 93, of Lanett, Alabama died May 18, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday May 21, 2016 at 11 AM (CT) at the Fredonia Methodist Church with entombment in his mausoleum at the church cemetery, with Paul Metler and Jim Green officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10AM (CT) until 11 AM (CT) at the church prior to the service. He is survived by his daughter Linda Whitlock and husband Don Whitlock, granddaughters Lynn Metler and husband Paul Metler, Kim Williams and husband Brad Williams, great granddaughter Lauren DeFoor and husband Josh Defoor, great grandson Nick Metler and great great grandson Jax Defoor.
Judge Thompson was born in Penton, Alabama December 6, 1923 to the late James Davis Thompson and the late Georgia Ethel Oliver Thompson, graduated from Lanett High School,attended Southern Union College at Wadley, Alabama. He had worked 20 years at Lanett Bleachery & Dye Works, worked 6 years for West Point Foundry & Machine Company. He was a member of the Fredonia Community Club, served 4 years on Board Of Directors of Tallapoosa River Electric, served 4 years on Chambers County Commission as chairman, served 11 1/2 years as Judge Of Probate for Chambers County, was in the beef/cattle business since 1945, was in the grocery & gas business for 25 years, he was a mason and a shriner, In 2008 he was recognized by the Industrial Development Authority and Alabama State of Representatives for his years of dedicated service, was a veteran of WW II, and he and his wife Ethel were married for 69 years, he received a certificate for Honorable Service in the United States Armed Forces for outstanding service & Loyality to the United State Of America, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
