Mr. Charles Cumbee, 94 of LaFayette, Alabama died Sunday March 5, 2017 at the LaFayette Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 8, 2017 at 11AM at the LaFayette First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Hand and the Rev. Jimmy Allen officiating, burial will follow at the LaFayette City Cemetery. James Allen, Chan Brinson, Dr. Butch Busby, Lewis Lowe, Joey Waid, Casey Waid, Louie Ward & James Williams, pallbearers. Visitation will be held Tuesday March 7, 2017 from 5PM until 7PM at the First Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to LaFayette First Baptist Church Building Fund 201 South LaFayette Street, LaFayette, Alabama  36862.

Mr. Cumbee was born January 17, 1923 and lived most of his life in Chambers County. He began his early career with the Mark Ford Construction Company. While working with the company on a job in Mississippi he met and married his Wife of 74 years, Tillie Cumbee. After returning to Alabama he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 42nd Rainbow Division. Mr. Cumbee worked for the Chambers County Highway Department and also held several positions with the Chambers County Hospital in LaFayette. He ended his career by serving as the director of the Chambers County School Bus Maintenance Shop. After retiring he and his wife Tillie provided daycare for many children in the LaFayette area. this was a great joy for both him and his wife.

He is survived by his wife Tillie Cumbee, daughters Phyllis Langley (Felton). Charline Hand (Mike) sisters Frances Fuller & Dorothy McCullars, grandsons Kevin Hand, Kenneth Hand (DeAnna), great grandsons Kade Hand, Kyle Hand, Landon Hand, Cohen Hand and great granddaughter Addison Hand. He was preceded in death by his mother Addie Mae Higgins Cumbee, father John Cumbee, brothers George, James, and Robert Cumbee.
