Ann Simpson Walton, age 92 of LaFayette was born May 20,1928, and passed away January 8,2021, at Magnolia Place in Auburn, Alabama.

She was the daughter of Roy Greene Simpson Jr and Rebecca Finney Simpson. She was a graduate of LaFayette High School where she met the love of her life, Alex Walton. At the time of his passing they had been married 67 years. She also attended Auburn University and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.

Mama was beautiful, the kind of beauty that grew more lovely with each passing year, laugh lines and gray hair….and her hair was always in place. She had a kind of laugh that was contagious and filled a room full with joy. Her sweet nature drew others to confide in her, trust her and most of all, love her completely. In all, her gentle spirit was surpassed only by her giant heart. Oh, how she loved~ unconditionally, unashamedly and uncompromisingly well. Her heart belonged to God, her family and her community of friends. Her faith never failed her, or us and God led her home with that same assurance.

God ushered her into his kingdom on January 8th, and I know she was celebrated by the hosts of Heaven ~ not the least of which is our father, in his Angel overalls. We are so grateful we all could call her "ours" and we celebrate her life and her legacy. She gave us the finest example of a life well lived and loved.

Ann was a member of LaFayette First United Methodist Church where she served faithfully until her health deteriorated. She loved singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school as well as leading MYF for many years.

To everyone else, January 8th was just another day but to us it was the day we lost our Mom. Her disease took her away a little bit at a time. Even though it's been so many years since she remembered our birthdays or called us on the phone….she always remembered our faces. The lesson of the great bond is that love never fails…..it also never ends.

Ann is survived by her 4 children, Alexander Gunn Walton, Jr. (Terri) Clay Simpson Walton (Lisa) Rebecca Walton McPherson (Chuck) and Debbie Howdyshell Moore (Jon). She is survived by 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one on the way. Also her niece Susan Walton Wilson, and nephew Peter Frank Walton (Cheryl). Many loved cousins from all over.

Thank you for carrying on Mama's generous heart and concern for others by wearing your mask at all times. She certainly would want you and others to be protected as we celebrate her life together. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 15, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the LaFayette Cemetery.

The family is eternally grateful for your heartfelt prayers and love during this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lafayette First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 380 Lafayette, Alabama 36862.
